The discrete PTT48 was developed for professional users who depend on reliable, inconspicuous, and flexible communication in security-critical operational areas – whether for police, private security services, special forces, or in covert operations. A common problem in the field: Many commercially available earphones have different pin assignments, which significantly complicates their use with professional radio technology. Standard headsets, such as iPhone earphones, are often not readily compatible.
This is where the PTT48 comes in: It features an intelligent detection circuit that directly supports a wide range of common 3.5mm earphones. The system automatically detects the number of pins (2-, 3-, or 4-pole), their assignment, and any microphone integrated into the cable. In such cases, the PTT48’s internal microphone is automatically deactivated. This eliminates time-consuming testing or adaptation – ensuring simple, secure, and discrete communication at all times.
The PTT48 is available in variants for radio devices from manufacturers such as Airbus (TPH900), Motorola, Kenwood, and Tait. Upon request, the solution can also be adapted for other radio device manufacturers. The automatic headset detection enables maximum flexibility when using various earphone models.
Functional description:
The discreet PTT48 allows the user to connect most 3.5mm plug earphones. The 3.5mm jack circuit detects the number of pins (2-pole, 3-pole and 4-pole) as well as the assignment of the connected headset. It also detects whether an external microphone is present in the cable routing. For cable routing microphone headsets, the microphone on the PTT48 switches off.
Thanks to an intelligent detection circuit, the PTT48 automatically detects the type of connected 3.5mm earphones:
